The Pumpkin Patch Oddysey

The fall season in western Idaho near the Owyhee Mountains in the Treasure Valley has arrived. As the leaves change colors and the weather changes – families in the valley visit pumpkin patches for harvest festivals, clean family fun, and picking up a pumpkin or two. So, come along for the ride with Zane and his family – as he explores the pumpkin patch.

Pumpkin Pie

One of the things that I love about Autumn is that it means pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and apple pie.   In fact, now that I think about it, all of my favorite foods are autumn seasonal foods: Sweet potatoes, squash, beans, cantaloupe, beets, cabbage and various herbs.

Seasons of Life

Everything has a season of life and it’s no accident that our personal seasons of life mimics that of the foods that we consume during the years of our lives. We eat what we grow, and what we grow depends upon the seasons of harvest.  I suppose autumn is my favorite time of the year because it’s also the start of the holiday season.  It’s a time when we give thanks for a bountiful harvest of sustainment that will last through the long cold months of Winter, when little grows.

When I was a young boy I wanted nothing more than to be a mountain man.  But, my mother was against the idea.   She had this odd belief that I needed to bath every night, and that my plan to become a hunter wouldn’t work as I was too young.   It’s amazing that even when we’re young we conduct our lives based upon what we perceive to be seasons of life.  The difference between my outlook then and now is knowledge, experience, and a healthy dose of humility gained by teaching tribulations.   I don’t know anything about everything that I don’t know.

But I still would like some pumpkin pie.

Galatians 6:9
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
